Madi put 34 points on the board across Austin’s home double-header, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Texans suffering back-to-back defeats in San Marcos.
Both losses were by the narrowest of margins, however, as Chris McGown’s team were beaten 3-2 by Omaha and Madison during the season’s penultimate Weekend with LOVB event.
Austin’s clash with Omaha kicked off proceedings on Friday night, with attendees at the Strahan Arena treated to a thrilling game of volleyball — even if the result didn’t go in the home side’s favor.
A ding-dong affair saw Omaha take the first set (23:25), before the hosts immediately bounced back in Set 2 (25:17).
And it was a similar story in the third and fourth sets, as Omaha claimed the upper hand (16:25) then allowed Austin to level things up once again (25:23).
That led to a nail-biting final set which the visitors edged (12:15), to round off an evening of offenses-on-top action.
“Hitting .335 and losing is not an easy thing to do,” lamented Austin interim head coach McGown after the game.
“That’s as good as we’ve played, I think, since I’ve been here, so that’s a bright spot for us for sure.”
No Austin player secured more points than Madi in the weekend’s first match (23), as she posted a commendable 22 kills and 17 digs.
She didn’t quite match those numbers in Saturday’s game against Madison (11 points), but nonetheless made a significant impact as her side were narrowly beaten 3-2 once again.
This time Austin claimed the opening set (25:22), before their Wisconsin-based opponents took control of the tie with consecutive set triumphs — 23:25 and 12:25, respectively.
Austin drew level in Set 4 (25:23) but couldn’t quite complete the turnaround as Madison regained their advantage in the final set (11:15).
It was a frustrating weekend in Texas, then, but Madi did at least achieve an impressive personal milestone during Gameweek 12, as she surpassed 200 points for the 2025 campaign.
She will be looking to add to a current tally of 205 — and get back to winning ways — when her side play Salt Lake in Utah next Saturday.
