Madisen Skinner capped off a stellar season in unforgettable fashion, with an MVP performance to power Austin to a 3-0 victory over Omaha in Sunday’s LOVB Championship Final.
In front of a buzzing crowd at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Madi was once again the heartbeat of the team, delivering 17 kills on .308 hitting, along with four blocks and five digs in the title-clinching win.
Austin had the upper hand throughout the game, but had to fight against an Omaha rally when the title was in sight. But they did, ultimately securing a 25-19, 25-22, 25-23 victory.
Madi came up huge in the deciding moments. Whether it was a perfectly timed kill or a crucial dig, the 23-year-old never shied away from the big stage, helping Austin clinch the first-ever LOVB title.
The championship performance puts the finishing touch on a phenomenal postseason for Skinner, who registered 63 kills, six blocks and four service aces over the three LOVB Finals matches. Her firepower and consistency were vital as Austin completed a straight sets victory in the final.
“It’s not about how you start, it’s about how you finish,” said Madi after the win. “We came out here and we closed it out, and we gave it everything we had.
“At the end of the day, I’m just so proud of this group and I’m proud to be in Austin and in this league.
Speaking about how she felt with all eyes on her in the final, she explained: "I thrive under pressure. I don't like feeling the pressure all the time but that brings out the best in me.
"I'm glad that I don't crack. For the most part I'm battle-tested and I'm surrounded by incredible people who are with me every day and they give me the confidence to go out there and swing."
Champions.
