Austin endured a tough weekend in Wisconsin, as upward-mobile Madison swept the Texans on Saturday evening.
Madi’s side headed to the Alliant Energy Center on good form, having won two matches at the LOVB Classic before recording back-to-back victories in Gameweek 7.
But they came up against another team with positive momentum, following Madison’s 3-1 triumph over Omaha the previous night.
And Matt Fuerbringer’s unit maximized their home advantage to record a second consecutive win in convincing fashion.
The hosts took the first set by 25:22, before registering a 25:21 scoreline in Set 2. They then wrapped things up by recording a convincing 25:17 scoreline in the third set, to seal a 3-0 victory.
“Congratulations to Madison, I thought they played as well as I've seen them play in virtually every phase of the game,” said Austin interim head coach Chris McGown after the match.
“We took one on the chin tonight.
“I'm so proud of our group. We've thrown so much at them in the last week and a half and they've gone through a lot, and we're still kind of experimenting with line-ups and trying to learn certain things about our team and everybody that's taken the court has played hard — they've been there for each other as team-mates, so I'm really proud of our group.”
Madi registered seven kills in Gameweek 8, which was only bettered by Chiaka Ogbogu (11) among the Austin squad.
Nonetheless, she will be desperate to get back to winning ways next weekend, when her team visit the Gateway Center Arena to take on Atlanta.
