Austin fought hard but couldn’t overcome Houston’s in a tight 3-1 loss (33-31, 25-23, 21-25, 25-16) at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park on Wednesday night.
The match started with an intense first set, the longest to date in LOVB’s inaugural season. Austin raced out to a 13-6 lead, with Madi hammering home early kills, but Houston clawed their way back to force extra points. Despite Austin’s best efforts, Houston edged the set 33-31.
The second set followed a similar pattern, with Austin showing resilience to level the score at 21-21 and 23-23, but ultimately falling just short once again.
Austin finally broke through in the third set, however Houston came out firing in the fourth, jumping to a 13-4 lead. Austin fought back, cutting the deficit to 16-13, but Houston closed strong to take the match.
Despite the loss, Madi still enjoyed a strong match, delivering 20 kills, hitting .312, while adding 12 digs, two aces, and a block to her tally.
Austin will look to bounce back at the LOVB Classic in Kansas City, starting on February 14.
