We’re reaching the business end of the LOVB Pro season — and there are some crunch games coming up for Austin.
Madi’s team have just three matches to secure their highest possible finish in the table, with an advantageous seeding for the LOVB Finals at stake.
First up for the Texans is a home double-header against bottom side Omaha — a team they have beaten three times from three attempts — and mid-table Madison this weekend (Friday 28th - Saturday 29th March).
The latter of those games at the Strahan Arena could be particularly crucial, with third-place Madison just one spot and a solitary victory ahead of Austin following Gameweek 11.
Chris McGown’s unit then wrap up the regular season with a trip to Utah, where they’ll take on Salt Lake on Saturday 5th April.
Again, that could be a significant encounter — Salt Lake are just a place below Austin and have exactly the same number of victories (five) as things stand.
Madi’s side will be buoyed by a record of two victories from three against their Gameweek 13 opponents, though.
So why is it so important to jostle for position in these final few matches?
Well, each team’s league position will determine who they face in the LOVB Finals, with the division’s top two sides advancing straight to the semi-final stage.
Austin won’t be able to catch Atlanta and Houston in those slots, but they can still secure a quarter-final against a lower-ranked team — and a potentially easier path to the final.
Third place plays sixth, for example, while fourth will face fifth. Ending the campaign in third spot would also allow Austin to avoid the top seeds at the semi-final stage, should they reach that point.
There’s still plenty to play for then, before the LOVB Finals get underway at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, KY, from Thursday 10th - Sunday 13th April.
